Blood Roots
A twisted genetically modified plant species that thrives only in the rainforests of Earth. It was created to be a universal source of cheap protein that could be grown anywhere on the planet, but it absorbed stray genetic material from many species and developed a predatorial intelligence. The plant mass can cover many acres but it is all one organism. Blood Roots get their name from their feeding habits, they soak the ground with the blood of their victims and suck it into their central core via special feeding roots. They feast on every animal species they encounter and displace or destroy competing plant species as they grow.
