You can't do anything during the upgrade phase except upgrade or assist. [YG 553]

All Upgrades (and Requisitions) are permanent until destroyed [YG 663].

Only a hero can upgrade equipment. Bots and NPCs cannot upgrade equipment.

An item can only be upgraded once.
