Reading the magical language is a talent that few possess, and the knowledge required to actually write in magic is too complex for even most of these scholars. Bards and Thieves may read passages written by others, and may even cast spells with this skill (-1 per 10 active points) if they have the right scroll. Only Mages may actually write magic, or inscribe magic into a scroll (also -1 per 10 active points). Doing so requires mana and a charge as if they had cast the spell, and a sum of money for the fine ink and parchment required (1 silver piece). It takes no mana to recite a scroll. Any material components are consumed when the scroll is scribed, and are not needed when the spell is cast.
